A Big New Campaign Is Underway...

SHARED BY CYN MACIAS-GOMEZ (BSC President)

Food Collective students are making another brave stand to have a true campus grocery store [actionnetwork.org] — and not a *sixth* failed campus bar in ten years.

Food Collective Loyal — You know that your Collective started because students understood they deserved more rights in their food system, and that they would need to fight for & win them through a direct action campaign [sfgate.com] .

But students could only secure an off-campus grocery store, in a humble former nail salon. So students over our whole history — from Christina Oatfield in 2010 to Adena Ishii in 2014 to Megha Krishnan in 2022 — have carried on that legacy by struggling to get a healthy grocery store on campus.

Today, Collective members are carrying on that struggle — and they need your support.

Our student members cordially invite you to

BSC Garden Revitalization Update

WRITTEN BY EYTAN STANTON (Garden Manager)

It's been an exciting few weeks at Rochdale, where Garden Managers and friends from several coops have gathered to build our very own plant nursery for the BSC.

We have been busy leveling ground, clearing trash, relocating an existing tool shed, and laying a foundation for our greenhouse. Our hope is to maximize sun exposure for the greenhouse, which is expected at Rochdale by the end of this month. To make sure our greenhouse and hub is cared for, IACOM and CFCOM are in the process of allocating funds for a member to run the greenhouse, starting this Summer. Whether you are a gardener or interested in cross-coop fun, email Eytan at gmc@bsc.coop to join our future GMH workdays! Many thanks to Gwenyth, Millie, Meadow, Elijah, Jordan, Hannah, Haley, Eamon, Karla and Jade for all the help in making our Garden Manager Hub a reality.

Aside from our exciting greenhouse plans, we've distributed over 250 native plants and edible crops to over 7 units in preparation for the Spring. Some units like the Convent and HIP recently received up-cycled lumber donations from Bay Area Redwood [bayarearedwood.com] to build raised beds and garden borders. Stebbins has built a new raised bed on their porch from a campus sustainability mini-grant. CZ has been sprucing up "No Man's Land" in their backyard. Kingman just planted a culinary herb garden and is maintaining their creek restoration effort. Spring is here!

The BSC Garden Revitalization is made possible by The Green Initiative Fund [tgif.berkeley.edu].
