General Job Description: The Conduct Hearing Coordinator will serve as a formal and informal administrative hearing officer in Berkeley Student Cooperative (BSC) conduct cases as well as providing advice and support to the BSC Conduct Committee. They will evaluate, investigate, and adjudicate complaints and allegations of violations of the BSC Conduct Code and portions of the BSC Member Contract. They will also provide advisory support, training, and coordination for the BSC Conduct Committee to review mid-level conduct complaints. In conjunction with the Member Resources Supervisor and student leaders, they develop educational materials related to common conduct issues and provide training and support to unit-level managers in enforcing conduct issues, conflict resolution, and restorative justice practices at the unit-level.


Job Maintenance Tasks:


Conduct Adjudication Oversight:

1. Serve as the primary conduct officer for the organization.
2. Hire, train and supervise the the Conduct Committee Chairs and the Conduct Member Advisors.
3. In conjunction with the Conduct Committee Chairs and Conduct Member Advisors, select, train and provide ongoing support to the student Conduct Committee.
4. Receive and review all member conduct complaints and determine if a potential conduct violation has occurred. Based on this determination, route complaints to the appropriate conduct process and/or hearing body consistent with BSC conduct policies.
5. When deemed appropriate, work with the Member Resources Supervisor to offer conditional contracts that address conduct concerns and seek to provide members with resources and support that will allow them to remain within the BSC community.
6. In collaboration with the Conduct Member Advisor, investigate all conduct complaints which may pose a threat to the safety of any BSC member, a unit, and/or the organization as whole.
7. Along with the Conduct Chair and the Conduct Member Advisor, serve as the hearing body for all high-level conduct complains.
8. Serve as an advisor to the Conduct Committee during conduct hearings for other complaints.
9. Develop and maintain a list of appropriate sanctions for all conduct violations.
10. Under the direction of the Cooperative Experience Manager, maintain a student conduct database, including conduct reports, tracking of outcomes and sanctions, reports and metrics.
11. Under the direction of the Cooperative Experience Manager, maintain information related to BSC terminations and PNGs and regularly share this information with the appropriate unit-level managers.
12. In collaboration with the Cooperative Experience Manager, report trends in student conduct to the Executive Director.


Conflict Resolution:

1. In conjunction with the Member Resources Supervisor and Restorative Justice Practitioners, provide conflict mediation among members or at the unit-level when necessary.
2. In collaboration with the Cooperative Experience Manager and the Member Resources Supervisor, resolve incidents with students through individual meetings outside of the formal processes whenever possible.


Training and Education:

1. Develop and implement education, awareness, and prevention trainings and programs related to the BSC Conduct Code, grievance procedures and other relevant regulatory standards.
2. Develop and implement educational resources to assist members who are alleged to have violated the BSC Conduct Code.
3. Provide support to all unit-level managers for issues related to member conduct complaints.
4. Train unit-level managers on best practices for enforcing unit and central-level conduct policies and resolving minor conduct concerns at the unit-level.

Skills/Knowledge required for job performance:

1. Knowledge of student conduct administration theory and best practice.
2. Knowledge of student support and intervention theory and best practice.
3. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student and employee policies and privacy records (Title IX, Clery Act, and FERPA ).
4. Demonstrated cultural competence and proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse student population.
5. Ability to develop familiarity with, have respect for and apply consistently, a complex set of organizational policies dealing with the areas of responsibility for this position.

Entry Level Experience/Education Required:

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
2. A minimum of two years of experience in conducting investigations, either for an education environment or workplace is required.
3. A minimum of two years experience in conflict resolution is required, preferably in the University setting.
4. Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
5. Two years of experience in student conduct or student affairs, working with conduct boards or related work experience is prefered.
6. Experience with Google Suite and/or RMS Mercury Software is preferred.
7. Previous supervisory experience, with students in particular, is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to operate a computer keyboard, printer, copier, and telephone and engage in repetitive motions.
2. Ability to occasionally attend evening meetings and sit through extended meetings.

Term of job: Indefinite

Hours per week: 40

Basic pay wage: Hourly, Level 10-14 ($52,629 - $63,971)
