Member Resources

Members hold Central Level jobs or workshifts in the Berkeley Student Cooperative.  These range from receptionists to food delivery to member education.  Below are a list of Member Resources member staff that you may need to contact directly. 

Hiring Commission Chair

Because the BSC is a democratically run organization, we hire all of our compensated central level positions through the Hiring Commission (HiCom), made up of BSC members who have recieved HiCom training. The HiCom Chair coordinates and facilitates all hirings and conducts trainings every semester that are open to any member. HiCom members are compensated at the workshift rate for the time they spend in hirings.

Health Education Coordinator

The Health Education Coordinator facilitates member health education and trains and supports health workers. Health workers are elected by their houses or apartments. They are CPR/First Aid trained and write health tips, plan health promotion activities, provide confidential advising, and keep first aid and safer sex supplies stocked. Health Worker Coordinator

The Health Worker Coordinator (HWC) is responsible for managing the BSC Health Worker Program by training, supervising, and supporting health workers. The HWC is charged with ensuring that Health Workers continue to promote health in the BSC through core health promotion strategies: community-level engagement/education, peer support, and appropriate referral. The HWC is also a student liaison between the BSC and University Health Services Health Worker Program, University Health Services, and other health promotion organizations.

Sustainability Coordinator

The Sustainability Coordinator helps reduce the BSC’s environmental impact through conservation, resource efficiency, education, and other innovative projects. 

Recruitment Coordinator

The Recruitment Coordinator provides support and assistance in the areas of recruitment and advertising. Duties include organizing house tours, creating advertising materials, and giving presentations to prospective co-opers about the benefits of co-op housing, coordinating tours of the co-op, and maintaining a tabling effort at Sproul Plaza.

Network Manager Coordinator

The Network Manager Coordinator provides technical support and information to the Network Managers elected at each BSC Unit and promotes the availability of peer technical assistance among Network Managers.

Waste Reduction Coordinator

The Waste Reduction Coordinator (WRC) supervises and coordinates all BSC recycling & re-use programs, both at the house and central level.  The WRC is also in charge of collecting and converting all co-op kitchen grease into biodiesel.

Member Resource Assistant

The Assistant to the Member Resources Supervisor (MRS Asst) provides support to the Member Resources Supervisor. She publishes the Owner’s Manual in the summer as well as the training manuals for house-level managers each semester. She also helps to coordinate events such as New Member Orientation and the BSC’s trip to the NASCO Institute. She also sends out the weekly Member Resources Newsletter.

Conduct Member Advisor

The Conduct Member Advisor is the primary resource for members involved in conduct proceedings at the central-level.  They provide assistance and information to both the complainant and respondent involved in conduct cases to ensure they understand the process and can appropriately prepare and effectively participate in the grievance process. They also act as the primary resource for members and unit-level managers involved in review hearings and/or personnel-related matters. The Conduct Member Advisor will also serve as a resource to the membership, being available via office hours, phone, and email to answer conduct-related questions and provide guidance on BSC conduct policies and grievance procedures.

Administrative Member Advisor

The Administrative Member Advisor is the primary resource for members making requests to the BSC Administrative Committee.  The Admin AA is obliged to attend all Administrative Committee (AdCom) meetings, AdHoc meetings, screening meetings, and to assist members with requests that come before the committee, as well as in any potential appeals of those decisions. The Admin AA will also serve as a resource to the membership, being available via office hours, phone, and email to answer administrative questions and provide guidance on BSC administrative policies and procedures.

Social Manager Coordinator

The Social Manager Coordinator takes the lead in planning major BSC member events. The SMC ensures the smooth planning, preparation, completion, and conclusion of member events—duties may include but are not limited to budgeting, establishing dates and alternate dates, advertising and promoting the event, selecting and reserving the event site, acquiring permits, transportation, tables, chairs, event support and security, signage, emergency plans, and cleanup. The SMC works closely with the Member Resources Supervisors (MRS) and VPET to create professional and well-attended events. Under the direction of the MRS, the SMC trains and provides on-going support to Social Managers throughout the semester.

Restorative Justice Practicioner

RJ Practitioners are trained in Restorative Practice (RP), Restorative Justice (RJ) and other forms of conflict resolution. They are responsible for providing services in these areas for members and managers in the Berkeley Student Cooperative. In addition, they meet collectively to discuss unit climate and conflict issues within the coops.  The RJPs report to the Cooperative Experience Manager.
