The BSC Consent Working Group (CWG) is looking for new facilitators for Fall 2018!

The Consent Working Group is a cohort of BSC members established Spring 2016 to create and implement consent education for the BSC's 20 units. We develop new forms of consent education that discuss underlying causes of consent violations. Some examples of these topics include consent within ongoing relationships, the effects of gender performance and other power structures on consent/ survivors, among others.

I am contacting as Workshop Lead for the QTPOC Conference 2018 Planning Committee. We are currently reaching out to community for volunteers who would be able to support the workshop the day of the conference.

The 12th annual Queer and/or Trans People of Color Conference will be coming to UC Berkeley April 6th-April 7th. We will be having attendees from California and beyond, therefore to make the conference as accessible as possible we are looking for local East Bay residents who are kindly interested in volunteering the day of the, April 7th to accommodate guests of the 2018 QTPOC Conference.
We are looking for people who are able to support community security, disperse food, and guide people to their destinations, registration, etc. For those who volunteer, we are planning on having snacks and you are free to stick around and hang out after your shift is over. :)

Any member of the East Bay community is encouraged to apply to be a volunteer. This is a great opportunity to connect with QTPOC, and make lifelong friends! If you do not identify as a queer and/or trans person of color, this is a great way to show support for the QTPOC community and make this conference more accessible to everyone!

Please fill out this google form if you are interested in supporting!

April is Water Conservation Month, or “Water Down April.” This means...let’s compete to reduce our water footprint!

The co-op that saves the most water per capita as compared to last year, as well as the co-op that uses the least water per capita, will receive a cash reward at the end of the competition, to be deposited in the house account. The house that saves the most will receive $1,000 and the house that uses that least per capita will receive $500. And, think of the financial savings from all the water conserved!

There are many ways to save water, such as shortening showers (try a 5-minute playlist), conscientious dishwashing, rain barrels, full laundry loads, and many more. Visit https://tinyurl.com/BSC-water-comp to look at your house usage and compare with other houses. Check out sustainability.bsc.coop or email This email address is being protected from spambots. May the waters be ever in your favor...

Know an outstanding co-oper? Nominate them for Co-Oper of the Month! Nominations can be submitted at anytime in the term, and a winner will be announced each month! The winners will be awarded with appreciation from all, co-op fame, a spot on the award-winning member resources newsletter, and least importantly -- money ($100)! Nominate someone here.

The Berkeley Student Cooperative is changing who gets to go to college and prepares students for the next step with meaningful experiences in student-run cooperative housing. The BSC Scholarship is an important way for us to serve our mission and open access to higher education.

APPLY NOW!

EOP, DSP, and undocumented students are encouraged to apply!

Are you South Asian, South West Asian, and/or North African? And are you queer/trans or questioning? If so, please fill out this anonymous mental health survey by the end of April 2018! It should only take about 10 minutes. Your responses will help towards getting a queer/trans SSWANA mental health worker staffed on campus that students can easily access!

This month Berkeley Hillel is going to have some really exciting social justice opportunities!

Starting March 8th we'll be running a series titled "Food, Judaism, Justice", ending with a Shabbaton at Urban Adamah from April 6-8th. This is an amazing opportunity to become a food justice expert! We'll also be spending some time thinking about changes that Hillel can implement to be better allies to the food justice movement - so if any of that excites you should sign up!

The application for the Shabbaton and more information about the series can be found here.

If you have any questions, or can't make this event but want to be involved in social justice at Berkeley Hillel, contact our Social Justice Fellow, Matt, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
