EOP Graduation Gown Lending

We are pleased to announce that the EOP Graduation Gown Lending Project Spring 2018 application is now open! Graduation can be an exciting moment for students, however the cost of purchasing a cap and gown can be a burden that impede students from fully enjoying their academic achievement. GGLP’s mission focuses on alleviating the financial burden graduation expenses have on students. This year we are excited to extend our resource to Master and PhD students!

Gowns are distributed on a first come, first serve basis so students are encouraged to apply early. In order to qualify, a student must either be: 1) Low-income and/or 2) First Generation and/or 3) Historically Underrepresented, OR a Graduate Student. Two separate applications will be available and the applications will be closing on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:59pm. Unsure of EOP status? Stop by the EOP office in 119 Cesar Chavez to be verified or apply to be EOP

Food Justice and Equity

Berkeley Hillel Programs

Starting March 8th we'll be running a series titled "Food, Judaism, Justice", consisting of three Thursday night workshops and a Shabbaton at Urban Adamah from April 6-8th. This is an amazing opportunity to become a food justice expert! We'll also be spending some time thinking about changes that Hillel can implement to be better allies to the food justice movement - so if any of that excites you should sign up!

The application for the Shabbaton and more information about the series can be found here.

If you have any questions, or can't make these events but want to be involved in social justice at Berkeley Hillel, contact our Social Justice Fellow, Matt, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

BSC Member Survey

The Berkeley Food Institute project "Building Equitable Food Systems at UC Berkeley" is seeking co-opers' input. Research has shown that low-income, students of color tend to struggle with obtaining adequate food on a daily basis, which has detrimental effects on one's health and ability to succeed academically.

The data may be incorporated into the Berkeley Foodscape Mapping Project, which maps the different barriers that may contribute to food-related learning and practice. Ultimately, we hope our data informs change on an institutional policy level, as well as highlights some of the factors we can immediately address to alleviate the hunger some students are consistently facing.

Bonus: the house with the highest response rate will be awarded a Vitamix!
