The Afro House 20th Anniversary Celebration

BSC News

We have some exciting news...

Our house is turning 20!

Afro House has stood as a promising and homely force for the Afro community in Berkeley for 20 years (and beyond), so to commend this beautiful milestone, we are having a celebration in November. Join us as we celebrate the beauty that is Afro House, and reconnect with former Fros for our 20th Anniversary: Week of Reclamation! Meet current Fros who are holding it down for ourselves and future Fros to come.

We have exciting events planned--Paint parties, hikes, movie nights, just to name a few. In the name of #blackjoy, we hope this event encourages you and the greater Afro community to enjoy yourselves, and spread love during these trying times. And to simply, reconnect with family! Hope to see you there.

English Teaching Opportunities in China

Opportunities

I am writing to let you all know that opportunities to teach English in China are unlimited! I have been in country less that one month and it was clear to me from day one that there could never be enough English teachers to satisfy the thirst that exists in this country for learning English!

The school I work for is unique in that they offer many different modes of teaching, and I taught through every mode: 1-on-1, small groups in private homes and businesses (usually classes of 4-8 students), and public schools (with as many as 60 students per class!).

The school has been extremely supportive, providing bilingual native-Chinese TA's for help in any/all classes, as necessary, and other admins who helped me with everything from picking me up at the airport, to driving me to a hotel near the HQ, to assisting with securing housing that fit my budget, and getting a bus pass, bank card, cell service....everything you can think of!

The need for English teachers exists all over China, not just in Beijing. If you are interested, curious, or just want some more information, please contact
