NASCO Scholarship Application Now Open!
 
Every year the BSC Experience and Training Committee offers a scholarship to a few members who are interested in attending the NASCO Institute in Ann Arbor, MI.  This year the institute occurs on Friday, November 10th through Sunday, November 12th.  

If selected, the scholarship will cover the member's registration fee and flight to the Institute.
Applications are due by 5pm on Wednesday, October 11th.

NASCO INFO:
Over 400 participants will converge on Ann Arbor, Michigan from November 10th through 12th, 2017 to share ideas, learn new skills, and look at issues affecting the cooperative movement worldwide.

Since 1977, NASCO's Cooperative Education & Training Institute has been widely recognized as one of the most important training and networking opportunities available to members, directors, staff and managers of group-equity cooperatives.

The annual NASCO Institute is always a one-of-a-kind opportunity to network with hundreds of cooperative leaders and employers, to caucus about pressing issues, and to work on building an inclusive and accessible cooperative movement.

MInd Body Nutrition Student Group Now Open!
 
 
Hey you health workers, we members owe you one. Thanks for looking out for our health. Mind Body Nutrition, a student org on campus has launched an infographic project that aims to bring reliable health info to students via colorful bathroom posters. It's essentially the same task as a health worker so why not join the project and log some hours? We'll meet twice a month to compile info from various sources then collaborate to create a poster. Hoyt's health worker is already on board...how about you?

The Mildred Jordan Sharp Scholarship
 
We invite you to apply to the Mildred Jordan Sharp Scholarship, a one-year, merit-based award that recognizes female juniors at UC Berkeley who have demonstrated leadership and a commitment to service, and who have excelled in their academics and personal development. Mildred Jordan Sharp Scholarship award amounts may range from $750-$3000, and are intended to assist recipients in the pursuit of a specific future goal or career.
 
Eligibility: 
  • Female
  • Junior standing
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Registration and enrollment at UC Berkeley undergraduate student in at least the minimum number of units approved by major, college, or school for fall 2017 and/or spring 2018
  • Must have matriculated at UC Berkeley for at least one full semester (incoming junior transfers are still eligible to apply)
  • Must be available to interview in-person on campus in November 2017

The Cal Pride Scholarship
 
We invite you to apply to the Cal Pride Scholarship! The Cal Alumni Pide chapter is the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) alumni club of UC Berkeley. Their mission is to support and promote the interests of UC Berkeley and its alumni, with an emphasis on issues and interests specific to the LGBT community. One of Cal Alumni Pride's major objectives is to serve as a resource to LBGT undergraduate students and their allies in the form of mentorship and scholarship opportunities.
 
The Cal Pride Scholarship is a one-year, merit-based award that recognizes Sophmore, Juniors, and Seniors at UC Berkeley as well as incoming transfer students, for academic achievment, leadership and community involvement, as well as their contribution to the LGBT community. Previous recipients of the Cal Pride Scholarship are not eligible to re-apply.
 
 
Eligibility:
  • Registered and enrolled as a UC Berkeley undergraduate student in the minimum number of units approved by major, college, or school for fall 2017 and/or spring 2018
  • In-person interviews will be held on campus in late fall (study abroad students interview virtually)
  • Previous Cal Pride Scholarship recipients are not eligible to re-apply

Berkeley Rec Sports Inclusive Programs
 

Berkeley Recreational Sports has some new and exciting inclusive programs we think you might enjoy. *Membership to the RSF is included in your tuition and all programs listed below are free.

 

Whether you want to simply workout at your own pace, connect with a trainer for a fitness orientation, or schedule an appointment to get some one-on-one fitness training attention, Inclusive Recreation at the RSF has something for you.

 

Current Inclusive Recreation Programs:
 

No Limits 101

We offer No Limits 101 which is a free orientation to the RSF for students with disabilities, both physical and hidden. (i.e. anxiety, depression, diabetes, etc...)

One of our personal trainers will take you through the facility and introduce you to strength and cardio equipment including specialized inclusive options.

 

 

No Limits Fitness Training

This exciting program provides personal fitness training to all students with disabilities free of charge. The No Limits program is funded by the Wellness Fee Committee and pairs up certified trainers with students to develop a personalized program designed to support your health and fitness needs and goals. Goalball

The RSF offers Goalball, a sport designed for those with visual impairment (participation is open to those with and without visual impairment). For an introduction to the sport, sign up for the 1-unit Goalball DeCal (to be posted) class, held on Fridays from 1:30-2:30pm at the RSF. Just want to check it out, stop by the Cal Goalball Team’s Friday practice between 12-1:30pm.

 

Cal STAR Yoga

Cal STARYoga, a yoga class for Rec Sports members and students with limited mobility.  This class is free for students and takes place on Fridays at 1:30pm at the RSF. Additionally, this class is a 2-unit DeCal class for students interested in assisting patrons with disabilities with yoga postures and various forms of exercise.

  • 1 visual impairment friendly treadmill

  • 1 visual impairment friendly upright bike

  • Uppertone Strength Machine - friendly for those who cannot grab handles

  • Cybex Wheelchair Accessible Strength Machines - Lat Pull, Row, Chest Press, Shoulder Press

  • FreeMotion Cable Pulley Machine - wheelchair accessible
